OPEN SUBMISSION CALL: New Multimedia Journal Jouska!


Jouska! is a new publication from the CCD. It is a multimedia publication accepting submissions on the experience of built, natural, and perceived Space(s) from anyone and anywhere in a variety of formats. The CCD is beginning to experiment with a larger variety of media formats to allow for a greater diversity of authors and modes of expression around/about Space. Pieces in any language are welcome as long as a translation in English is provided in the respective media format.

Jouska! is experimental and artistic in tone, as compared to SIDe (the Science Informed Design Journal) which is academic, and the Conscious Cities Anthology which is academic but accessible in tone and intended for a general audience.

Deadline for submissions: February 15th.
Informed of acceptance: February 28th.
Publication: April 30th

Email your submission as either a .pdf or .doc (if written), a Youtube/Vimeo link (if audio/video) to [email protected] with the subject line ‘Jouska! Submission from [YOUR NAME]. Please provide any relevant social links and a short bio.

Submissions are selected without knowledge of the author's personal information to ensure a fair process.

Accepted multimedia formats on the theme of 'Spatial Relationships.'

-Photographic series (standalone photo or up to 6 consecutive photographs that convey a cohesive narrative. Or a series of standalone photos. Please specify which you are submitting.)
-Short films (up to 20 minutes with no minimum length).
Genres: animation, short documentary, experimental, film essay, visual poetry, sci-fi, theatre, monologues

-Poetry (a standalone poem or series of poems up to 4 poems in any poetic style. No longer than 150 lines per poem).
-Short expository essays (up to 2000 words)
-Creative non-fiction/personal essays (up to 2000 words)
-Photojournalism pieces.
-Non-fiction pieces that communicate major ideas in a short, digestible way.

-Music (spatial soundtracks, original songs w or without lyrics. Accompanying music videos welcome).
-Slam poetry
-Dance pieces (up to 10 minutes)

-VR/AR landscapes (up to 3)
-Graphic/environmental renders.
-UI/UX design

-Sculpture, visual/fine arts, etc.
