In preparation for the Conscious Cities Festival Lima 2020 event, Conscious Lima will present the work of our speakers to share the impact they generate in Lima and beyond. In this segment, we are pleased to present the Dromos Group, an association for development and research from architecture.

Dromos Groupis a non-profit association founded in 2016, which seeks to contribute to improving the quality of life of populations in vulnerable conditions, using architecture as a transformation tool. Grupo Dromos seeks to promote the training of professionals in issues related to sustainable development, seeking that each intervention, in addition to being compatible with caring for the environment, generates a link between the academic community and users. The projects ensure the accompaniment in the creation of the necessary capacities to empower them and that they are managers of their own development. The interventions carried out by Grupo Dromos begin with workshops and conferences that allow instruction on the central theme and then apply them in a participatory manner.
Among the projects developed by Grupo Dromos is the “Construction Day in Chilca”, which had the objective of intervening in the premises of the NGO Esperanza de Ana, to improve the recreation area for children. In the first stage, conferences were given at the Ricardo Palma University with professionals specializing in bamboo construction, where the participants learned about the main techniques and the projects to be carried out were considered. The second stage was the construction of furniture, bamboo structures and games with recycled materials. Earth construction sessions were also held to learn about the benefits and practices of using this material. The conferences were not only aimed at professionals, but also at children, seeking to commit ourselves to future generations of change.

One of the objectives of the association is to generate alliances to improve the dissemination of information, which is why, together with the URP Housing, Urbanism and Sustainable Development Institute and the company Arrebol, the “Sustainable Sanitation Conference” was held in which addressed the use of dry toilets and gray water treatment. He has also been part of the research team of the project “Transformations in indigenous homes and settlements in Madre de Dios” and participated in the 1st Seminar on “The Amazon and Amazon Native Peoples in the Face of Global Change” held at the Pablo de Olavide-UPO of Seville, Spain, last February 2020. Intervention proposals are currently being developed in native communities of the central jungle,
Join Grupo Dromos and other organizations between October 19 and 23 to learn more about gaining perspectives and possibilities for an architecture of good living!
