Who does the work of making and keeping a neighbourhood vibrant? In cities, our public spaces are shared by many different communities, each with their own unique desires and needs for that space. We know that architecture, landscape and urban design play a role in fostering investment and stewardship in public places to help them, and the people using them, thrive. Join Conscious Toronto for a workshop that traces the ways that community stewardship of urban public places supports the cultural, physical and social health of our city. This in-person workshop will focus on reconnecting with place by learning about Conscious Design Principles and tracing the design gestures of public spaces, both formal and informal, through a lens of community building and labour. The event format will include:
- a short lecture and group discussion
- a neighbourhood walk exploring nearby urban conditions
- a collaborative mapping exercise
- a debrief and reflection
Stay tuned for more details to come. The event is a part of the Conscious Cities Festival 2025.
