This course introduces a unique perspective on the intersection between architecture, psychology, and neuroscience; one that is norm-questioning, emotion-forward, body-literate and sensor-free.

We embrace context-driven research over exclusively lab-centered evidence.
We prioritize human needs over behavioral engineering.
We favor growth and vitality over emotional zen.
We trust intuitive knowledge over trend-based formulas.
We champion human autonomy over technological measurement.

This course explores the nature of feeling to help you understand why some spaces naturally support positive moods. Equipped with this knowledge, you’ll be able to expand your intuitive discernment and pursue design decisions that resonate emotionally and meaningfully with people, now and forever.

Goals

  1. Understand the foundations of research-informed design, including key concepts from environmental psychology, neuroscience, and embodied cognition.
  2. Discover how and why spatial qualities shape mood and emotional connection to place.
  3. Identify how environments signal safety and aliveness and how to apply these principles to evaluate and improve real spaces.
  4. Strengthen your intuitive discernment as a design tool, integrating scientific insight with lived, sensory, and embodied experience.
