Ar. Afreen Fatima is an architect and conservationist by day and an artist by heart, weaving her
love for water, heritage, and drawing into her multifaceted career. With over two decades in
architecture, she graduated from Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University
(JNAFAU), Hyderabad, where her passion for art and design led her to the field. Her
professional journey took her to Muscat, Oman, where she excelled as a Construction Manager, shaping sustainable built environments.
Currently, as a PhD scholar in the Department of Conservation at SPA Bhopal (registered in
August 2023), Afreen explores the intricate connections between traditional water systems,
ecology, and cultural heritage, with a focus on Telangana’s Baolis.
She loves children’s literature, crafting stories that spark young imaginations, and is an avid
reader, finding inspiration in diverse narratives. Her creative spirit shines through her
illustrations for Montessori story books, where her art nurtures young minds. Affiliated with
prestigious organizations like the Council of Architecture (COA), ICOMOS India, the Indian
Institute of Interior Designers (IIID) Hyderabad, and the Indian Institute of Architects (IIA),
Afreen’s work bridges tangible and intangible heritage, fostering community-driven design.
Whether sketching nature-inspired artworks or advocating for water conservation, she remains
dedicated to blending art, architecture, and sustainability to preserve cultural and environmental legacies.
