Fostering Resilience: Lessons from Life at Sea | The Greenhouse

Luca is a Consultant, Engineer, and Business Developer with over a decade of international experience at the intersection of innovation, technology, and conscious design. His expertise spans the Design Thinking, strategic transformation and Internet of Things, with a particular focus on unconventional living arrangements, including sailboats, intentional communities, and regenerative villages.

In 2019 Luca has embarked on a global circumnavigation by sailing boat, using his time at sea to delve deeply into the relationship between people and places. He explores the meaning of sharing and belonging and how elements such as comfort and privacy alone will not lead to thriving communities.

Luca’s career has led him living and working in countries including Italy, the USA, Spain, Brazil, Switzerland, Germany, and Vietnam. He holds a Master of Science in Mechatronics and Robotics from Politecnico di Milano and has spent five years in the corporate tech industry, advising C-level executives and government officials on strategic innovation initiatives. His work often involves facilitating Design Thinking workshops, rapid prototyping, and proof of concept activities.

Currently, Luca is a Fellow at The Center for Conscious Design, where he contributes to the city-making grassroots movement. He is also an Ambassador at Ocean Nomads, an adventure impact community, and a member of Exponential View/DO, a network dedicated to exploring the future of society, political economy, and technology.

This video is a recording of Luca Tausel’s presentation during the inaugural Greenhouse event on July 3, 2024. The event, titled “Fostering Resilience: Lessons from Life at Sea,” explored how strategies and experiences from maritime life can inform the development of resilient urban communities. In his talk, Luca shares key insights from his extensive time at sea, highlighting the principles of social cohesion, preparedness, and coordination that can be applied to urban design and community building.
